Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Construction Planner to join one of our client’s project teams, an established construction company, based in Dublin.
This is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced Planner to take a key role across both the pre-construction and delivery stages of high-value building projects.
The successful candidate must have strong experience in building construction and, importantly, must be capable of developing complete construction programmes from scratch. The role will involve working across projects valued in the region of €50 million–€100 million, requiring a strong understanding of construction sequencing, programme development and project delivery.
The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial Teams, subcontractors and other key stakeholders to develop, maintain and monitor detailed construction programmes.
Role and Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, review and administer detailed construction programmes and project schedules.
- Take ownership of developing construction programmes from initial concept and build them from scratch.
- Develop and maintain accurate project progress databases.
- Monitor live projects and track progress against agreed programmes, milestones and construction dates.
- Liaise closely with Project Managers, Engineers and wider project teams to review progress and address programme-related issues.
- Prepare detailed progress reports and programme updates for presentation to both the project team and client.
- Present relevant planning and programme information at internal project meetings.
- Identify potential programme risks, delays and critical issues and work with the project team to develop appropriate solutions.
- Proactively engage with project teams to obtain information, clarify requirements and resolve potential programme issues.
- Liaise and coordinate work activities with external contractors, suppliers, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Develop pre-construction requirements and prepare programmes and schedules to achieve agreed construction dates.
- Assist with consultations and negotiations with consultants, developers and other relevant stakeholders.
- Review construction methodologies and ensure programmes reflect appropriate sequencing, resources and logistical requirements.
- Consider the impact of plant, equipment, site logistics and construction methodology when developing project programmes.
- Consider commercial and cost implications when compiling programmes and developing construction solutions.
- Apply knowledge of planning requirements across different forms of construction contracts.
- Provide planning input and supporting information for PQQs and tender submissions.
- Develop tender programmes and provide planning support throughout the tender process.
- Provide ongoing planning information and programme support for live construction projects.
- Attend and provide relevant information for pre-tender, mid-tender and post-tender interviews.
- Work closely with Commercial, Design, Procurement and Construction teams to ensure programme requirements are effectively coordinated.
- Maintain accurate planning records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support the development of recovery and mitigation programmes where potential delays are identified.
- Travel to project sites as required to review progress and engage directly with site teams.
- Ensure planning activities support the successful delivery of projects safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience working as a Construction Planner or in a similar planning position.
- Essential: Proven experience developing and building detailed construction programmes from scratch.
- Strong previous experience within building construction is essential.
- Experience across structural and general building construction projects is required.
- Candidates whose experience is primarily within civils, M&E or data centre projects may not be suited to the requirements of this position.
- Previous Main Contractor experience is highly desirable.
- Experience working on high-value construction projects in the €50 million–€100 million range is highly desirable.
- Relevant Construction-related degree or qualification is desirable.
- Strong working knowledge and practical experience of ASTA Powerproject.
- Experience developing, maintaining and monitoring detailed construction programmes and progress databases.
- Strong understanding of building construction methods, sequencing and project delivery.
- Good knowledge of the planning requirements associated with different forms of construction contracts.
- Strong understanding of modern building techniques, construction processes, plant and equipment.
- Good understanding of site logistics and how logistical requirements impact construction programmes.
- Commercial awareness with an appreciation of the impact of cost when developing programmes and construction solutions.
- Previous experience providing planning input into PQQs, tenders and live projects would be advantageous.
- Full, valid driving licence is required due to regular travel to project sites.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work effectively to demanding deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced IT skills and confidence working with relevant construction and planning software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
- A proactive and inquisitive approach, with the confidence to ask questions, seek clarification and engage with project teams when additional information is required.
- Ability to work effectively on own initiative and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors and internal project teams.
