Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join one of our client’s site teams, a leading main contractor, on a project in County Clare. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent opportunity to work on a high-quality project while developing your career with an established main contractor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting out works accurately, providing technical support to the site team and ensuring construction is delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, quality standards and project requirements.

Role and Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate setting out and surveying of works in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
• Establish and maintain control points, levels and benchmarks throughout the project.
• Use surveying equipment including Total Stations, GPS and other relevant setting-out equipment.
• Interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Ensure all setting out is completed accurately and in accordance with the project programme.
• Conduct site surveys, measurements and checks as required.
• Work closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager and wider site team to support the successful delivery of the project.
• Liaise with subcontractors and provide technical guidance regarding setting out and construction requirements.
• Monitor works to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and required quality standards.
• Identify and communicate any discrepancies between drawings, specifications and site conditions.
• Assist with resolving technical issues that arise during construction.
• Maintain accurate records of setting out, surveys, measurements and completed works.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System on site.
• Assist with inspections, quality checks and preparation of relevant QA documentation.
• Ensure works are carried out in accordance with health and safety requirements.
• Assist with the coordination and planning of upcoming works to ensure the project remains on programme.
• Attend site and project meetings where required.
• Work collaboratively with subcontractors, consultants and other members of the project team.
• Assist with as-built surveys and preparation of as-built information throughout the project.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, Surveying or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working as a Setting Out Engineer/Site Engineer within the construction industry.
• Previous experience working with a Main Contractor is highly desirable.
• Strong setting out and surveying experience.
• Experience using Total Stations, GPS and relevant surveying equipment.
• Ability to accurately interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong technical and practical knowledge of construction methods.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering work to a high standard.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider site team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities in a busy site environment.
• Good understanding of health, safety and quality requirements within construction.
