Senior Engineer – Excellent Main Contractor Opportunity!

A leading Irish main contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a high-performing project team delivering large-scale residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments across Dublin.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong Senior Engineer looking to take ownership of the engineering function on a major construction project with a well-established contractor known for delivering high-quality developments across Ireland.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of complex, multimillion-euro projects, taking responsibility for technical coordination, setting out, QA/QC, temporary works, and engineering management on site.

Working closely with the Project Manager, Design Team, and Site Management team, you will help drive programme delivery while maintaining the highest standards across quality, safety, and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all engineering activities on site from commencement through to completion.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical information to identify buildability and coordination issues in advance of construction.
  • Lead dimensional control and oversee all setting out activities carried out by the engineering team.
  • Drive technical problem-solving and provide practical engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all QA/QC procedures, inspections, and testing requirements are completed to specification.
  • Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and the wider construction team to maintain programme delivery.
  • Maintain detailed site records including RFIs, inspections, technical submissions, and site diaries.
  • Oversee temporary works coordination and ensure compliance with all relevant procedures and safety standards.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing method statements, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure works are completed in line with programme and quality expectations.
  • Attend design, coordination, and engineering meetings, proactively identifying risks and delays.
  • Support project planning, sequencing, logistics, and construction methodology.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers on site, providing technical leadership and guidance.
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations, company procedures, and project requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience working with a main contractor in Ireland or the UK.
  • Strong experience on large-scale residential, commercial, mixed-use, or RC frame projects.
  • Excellent understanding of setting out, engineering coordination, QA/QC, and temporary works.
  • Proven ability to manage engineers and coordinate subcontractors effectively on live projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working to tight programmes in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Proficient with surveying equipment, AutoCAD, and modern construction software.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish building regulations and health & safety standards.
