Job Specification – Senior Site Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join one of our client’s project teams, a leading main contractor, on a project in County Galway.

This is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a key role in the delivery of a high-quality construction project while continuing to develop their career with an established main contractor.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and engineering support to the Site Manager, Project Manager and wider project team.
  • Oversee and manage all engineering activities on site, ensuring works are completed accurately and in accordance with drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Carry out setting out, levelling and surveying of works using appropriate equipment.
  • Ensure all setting out and engineering works are completed to the required tolerances and quality standards.
  • Review drawings, specifications and technical information, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or potential issues.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, design teams and other members of the project team.
  • Monitor subcontractor works to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and agreed quality standards.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of works to ensure the project programme and key milestones are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including setting-out information, surveys, inspections and as-built documentation.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance where required.
  • Assist with the preparation and management of RFIs, technical submittals and site documentation.
  • Carry out quality inspections and ensure works comply with the company’s Quality Management System.
  • Identify technical issues at an early stage and work with the project team to implement effective solutions.
  • Liaise with the design team to resolve technical queries and ensure information is available in line with the construction programme.
  • Monitor materials and ensure they comply with project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Attend site, technical and project meetings as required.
  • Support the implementation of the company’s Safety Management System and ensure engineering activities are carried out safely.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety regulations, company procedures and quality standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Site Engineer/Senior Site Engineer position within the construction industry.
  • Relevant Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience working for a Main Contractor is highly desirable.
  • Strong setting-out, surveying and technical engineering experience.
  • Proven experience working on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with relevant surveying equipment and engineering software.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and quality requirements.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time-management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to support and mentor junior members of the engineering team.
  • Ability to work effectively on own initiative and as part of a wider project team.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and quality requirements within the construction industry.
